Alexander Calder was an American sculptor best known for inventing the mobile, a kinetic sculpture that moves with air currents, and the stabile, its monumental stationary counterpart. A pioneering figure in modern art, Calder combined engineering, abstraction, and movement to redefine the possibilities of sculpture. Throughout his career, he also created paintings, drawings, jewelry, tapestries, and limited-edition prints, expanding his influence across multiple artistic disciplines. His bold use of color, balance, and organic form established him as one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century.
